New reports indicate that Empire star, Jussie Smollett, turned down security details dispatched to him prior to his attack in Chicago on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old declined the security entourage sent to protect him by FOX Studios because he didn’t want to be weighed down with so much protection, a source said.

A week before the attack, Fox Studios in Chicago was sent a homophobic letter addressed to Smollett with threats to kill him.

An Empire production source told celebrity website, TMZ, that Jussie will have “24/7 armed security going forward … at least until the 2 thugs are apprehended.”

Jussie Smollett, who is famous for playing the character of Jamal Lyon on hit TV show, Empire, was on Tuesday attacked by unidentified assailants in Chicago.

The entertainer was taking a walk through the city when two people attacked him, tied a noose around his neck, yelling racial and homophobic slurs.
