WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, who was arrested on Thursday at Ecuador’s embassy in London, will be extradited to the US, British police have said.

A statement by the police said the Australian has “been further arrested on behalf of the United States authorities, at 10:53 am after his arrival at a central London police station. This is an extradition warrant under Section 73 of the Extradition Act.”

Mr Assange was arrested following eviction from the Ecuadorean Embassy in London.

Assange has been living at the embassy since he applied for asylum there in 2012.

President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, said on Twitter that his country had decided to revoke the asylum status it had granted to Assange after “his repeated violations to international conventions and daily-life protocols.”

United States Justice Department wants the WikiLeaks founder to face criminal charges for the publication of classified documents.
