Isale Eko Descendants’ Union, princes, princesses condemn invasion of Akiolu’s palace

The Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu

Isale Eko Descendants’ Union has condemned the attack by hoodlums at the palace of the Oba of Lagos Oba Riliwanu Akiolu.

Hoodlums who hijacked the #EndSARS protest against police brutality invaded the palace on Wednesday and made away with traditional instruments of office and other valuables and artefacts.

The union in a statement on Thursday by its chairman Yomi Tokosi expressed sadness that the organised peaceful #EndSARS protest has been hijacked by hoodlums.

“We unreservedly condemn the acts of sacrilege committed by the culprits who desecrated our cultural heritage,” the union said.

“We appeal that they stop this wanton destruction, sheath their swords and allow peace to reign.

“It is pertinent to state that Iga Idunganran belongs to all sons and daughters of Isale Eko and it’s sanctity is our collective duty. The Palace is the custodian of centuries’ old priceless and irreplaceable heritage artefacts that have been passed down through generations.

“We are consoled that Kabiyesi, Oba Riliwanu Babatunde Akiolu, Akiolu 1, and his Family are safe and secure.”

Similarly, the Forum of Eko Princes and Princesses condemned the attack.

In a statement signed on behalf of the forum by Prince Adewale Ojora, they said: “Reviewing the damming footage of the violent invasion by these miscreants and vandals, it is disheartening to observe the wanton desecration of our traditional heritage in Lagos.

“We totally condemn this attack and demand that it ceases immediately and urge the security services to secure the Palace.

“We commiserate with our Royal father Alaiyeluwa Oba Rilwan Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu, Akiolu I and call on the Lagos State Government to investigate this incident and bring the perpetrators of this dastardly act to book.”
