INEC to meet over ban on political campaigns

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled a meeting for its officials on Monday to review its ban on political campaigns.

Campaign window had closed last Thursday in expectation of the elections. INEC then insisted on Saturday in a stakeholders meeting that campaigns remained closed despite postponing elections by one week.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have vowed to continue campaigns nonetheless.

However, the commission’s spokesperson, Rotimi Oyekanmi, has said that INEC would meet to review its position and decide whether or not to reopen campaigns.
