I’ll be the first to pay new minimum wage ― Obiano

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has said that he would be the first governor to pay the new national minimum wage of N30,000 once it gets President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent.

Mr Obiano made this promise on Thursday at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat in Awka, during a meeting with civil servants in the state.

He urged them to elect members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) into the state legislature, stressing that the state has in the last four years, made progress especially as APGA has high representation in the State House of Assembly.

Obiano declared Friday work-free day to enable workers prepare for Saturday’s governorship/state assembly elections.

Head of Service in the state, Harry Udu, said the state workforce would continue to support the governor because of his numerous welfare packages, some of which are prompt payment of salaries, pensions, gratuities, Christmas largesse, and ongoing renovation of the Secretariat, among others.

The state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Jerry Nnubia, told civil servants in the state to leverage on the governor’s promise to be the first to pay the national minimum wage by voting for APGA candidates on Saturday.
