Ile Arugbo: Judge suggests out-of-court settlement

A High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State has advised all parties in the Ile Arugbo demolition case to explore all avenues of out-of-court settlement in the interest of peace and justice.

The late Olusola Saraki’s property in Ilorin, popularly called Ile Arugbo, was demolished on January 2 and reclaimed by the state government which said a new secretariat would be constructed on the site.

Justice Abiodun Adebara advised the counsels on Wednesday to seek settlement outside the courtroom.

The judge ordered that a notice of summons be pasted on the Police Headquarters board and Commissioner of Police’s office for him to appear in court on the next hearing.

He, however, adjourned the case until January 24, for hearing of pending applications and interim injunction.

Both counsels, Abdulazeez Ibrahim (for the claimant) and Salman Jawando (for Kwara government) stated their readiness to settle out of court.

“We are ready if the parties involved show interest. Settlement will be in the interest of Kwara,” Mr Jawando said.
