Celebrities, including Chioma Ifemeludike, also known as IfeDike, DJ Big N, Odumodublvck are calling for justice after a police officer killed a restrained suspect in Delta.
A video showing the shooting of a suspect who had been restrained by a police officer attached to the Delta police command has surfaced on social media.
In the less-than-two-minute video, the male suspect is seen sitting on the ground with his hands tied behind his back with a rope.
Crying, the suspect said he would take the officers to the friend’s house in Sapele.
“Officers, abeg, I go tell you everything. Na my friend deceived me. E dey Sapele. I go carry you go the place,” the suspect begged the officers in Pidgin English
As the suspect was pleading with the officers, one of them, dressed in mufti, was seen cocking his rifle and then shooting directly at the suspect.
Immediately, the suspect lay on the ground as passers-by watched the incident.
Afterwards, the police officers carried the body into a Toyota Sienna vehicle with the inscription: “The Nigeria Police Force Effurun Area Command, Uvwie”.
The video has sparked outrage on social media.
Ifemeludike reacting wrote on Instagram, “What actually is the value of a Nigerian…? In our country our government kill us, outside the country we are attacked and asked to go back to our shithole dump site called home…
“Our crime is not just that we are Nigerians, our crime is that we have never fought to be treated as humans who deserves respect and the right to live. I tell you, this is the time to fight for our lives and that of our children born and unborn… Enough is Enough!✊🏾 Justice must prevail for this young man.”
DJ Big N wrote, “The Face of A Killer. ASP Nuhu Usman. When will this crase STOP? When will police officers use their weapon to protect? And not to oppress. I strongly condemn the extra judicial killing of the young boy (Mena)…. Everyone deserves to have their day in court. Like WTF? Like WHY???”
Others like Odumodublvck and Do2dtun have also called for justice.
In a statement on Tuesday, Delta police spokesperson Bright Edafe identified the suspect as 28-year-old Mene Ogidi.
Edafe said the shooting of the suspect by a police officer identified as Nuhu Usman led to Ogidi’s death.
He said Usman has been arrested and transferred to the state police headquarters, Asaba, for disciplinary action.
The command said investigation is ongoing into the incident.
