ICPC inaugurates anti-corruption vanguard at Michael Otedola College of Education

ICPC Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has inaugurated the Students Anti-Corruption Vanguard (SAV) at the Michael Otedola College of Education, Noforija in Epe area of Lagos State.

Inaugurating the vanguard, the ICPC Commissioner in Lagos Office, Mr Shintema Binga, urged students of the institution to shun all forms of corruption.

Binga was represented by Mrs Mary Omonoyan, the Principal Superintendent, Education Unit of ICPC, Lagos Zonal Office.

He listed various forms of corruption to include: examination malpractices, lateness to class, writing and submitting tests and examination for your friends and begging for marks from lecturers.

According to him, others are a falsification of certificates, reports and records, sex for marks, cyber-crime, cultism, lying, stealing and stealing.

Binga said that corruption hindered the development of socio-economic infrastructure, democracy and good governance, provision of employment, security, foreign investment among others.

He said the anti-graft agency was partnering an NGO, Youth Alive Foundation (YAF), to fight corruption in higher institutions with a view to eliminating it from the society.

“The ICPC conceptualised the formation of SAV in tertiary institutions to operate as agents of corruption prevention by civil actions.

“Students are a critical segment of the society and the commission does not miss any opportunity to train them on how to join the fight against corruption.

“For us to have a nation that we can be proud of, students should be involved in the fight against corruption.

“Youths are mostly affected by the negative effects of corruption, and if left unchecked, will destroy their dreams,” Binga said.

He urged students of the institution to report any incident of corruption, advising them to ensure that the information provided was precise and consists of necessary details.

“Educate other people on the danger of corruption and ways to curb it.

“Participate in advocacy campaigns against corruption and elect persons of integrity into positions of leadership,” he said.

In his remarks, Provost of the college, Dr Nosirudeen Onibon, urged students to be actively involved in the fight against corruption.

Onibon, represented by Dr Imam Abayomi, the Chief Librarian of the school, advised students to be sincere in their ways of life.

Miss Opeyemi Jimoh, a 200-Level student of Mathematical and Economic, commended the commission for initiating the programme in the college.

Jimoh, a SAV Volunteer, promised to use the vanguard to improve the lives of many students in the institution.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 100 students of the institution joined the anti-corruption vanguard.
