Iceland speaks tough ahead of Super Eagles clash

Iceland qualify for World Cup

After holding South American giants, Argentina to a score draw in the group D match, Coach of Nigeria’s next group opponents (Iceland), Heimir Hallgrimsson, believes he has the formula to destroy the Super Eagles

Hallgrimsson noted that his team is not of the opinion that they are better than Nigeria ahead of their clash against the Super Eagles on Friday, however, they would approach the game the way they did against Argentina.

Iceland held World Cup 2018 favourites Argentina to a 1-1 draw in their opening fixture, while Nigeria was beaten 0-2 by Croatia but the coach insists that West Africans are no pushover despite the loss.

“We look at everything with the mindset that we have found a formula that works for us today,” Hallgrimsson told FIFA TV.

“And we try to get everybody to follow it. We’ve tried to find what kind of playing style, what kind of characteristics this Icelandic team needs to have, and what identity an Iceland national player needs to have. And this is the way for Iceland to be successful.

“We are not of the opinion that we are at all better than Nigeria. We know our strengths, and need to make the best of them.”
