Ibrahimovic bags French Ligue 1 player of the year award

Paris Saint-Germain striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, was awarded the French Ligue 1 player of the year on Sunday, for a third time by his fellow professionals.

The 34-year-old beat off competition from teammate Angel Di Maria, Marseille midfielder Lassana Diarra and OGC Nice winger Hatem Ben Arfa, to reclaim the prize, with the trophy being handed to him by Dutch legend, Edgar Davids, at the UNFP awards ceremony in Paris.

The Sweden international has scored a season best 35 goals in the French league. He’s the first player to score more than 30 in a season in France’s top division since Carlos Bianchi scored 37 in 1977-78.

PSG coach, Laurent Blanc, claimed the coach of the year award after leading his team to a fourth consecutive French title.

Ousmane Dembélé of Stade Rennais FC was named young player of the year, beating Vincent Koziello of Nice, Thomas Lemar of AS Monaco and Adrien Rabiot of Paris Saint-Germain.
