Atletico out of title race as Barcelona, Real Madrid win

Suarez, Neymar and Messi

Barcelona ran riot at the Camp Nou, as Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez (brace), Rafinha and Neymar secured a 5-0 victory to strengthen their position at the top.

Messi got the ball rolling in the eighth minute with an excellent free kick, before his team-mates followed suit.

The result leaves Luis Enrique’s side needing a win on the final day of the campaign to retain their La Liga crown.

A brace from Cristiano Ronaldo, making it 49 goals for the season, and a finish from Karim Benzema confirmed the La Liga title race would go down to the wire.

Los Blancos were in full control for much of the game, but a goal from André Gomes in the 81st minute set up a nervy ending in the Spanish capital.

They held on though, and only one point separates the top two in the league, with Barca leading with 88 points.

Real travel to Deportivo La Coruña for their curtain closer of the campaign, while Barcelona take on Granada.

Atletico Madrid’s title hopes are over after suffering defeat in their penultimate game.

Fernando Torres, who has scored six goals in his last 10 games, got the ball rolling in the second minute, but it wasn’t enough for Diego Simeone’s side.

Levante fought back to take the three points, with VĂctor CasadesĂşs in the 30th minute and Giuseppe Rossi, agonisingly, in the 90th minute spoiling Atletico’s chances of piping rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid to the La Liga trophy.

The La Liga title race will go down to the wire with Barcelona currently on 88 points, Real Madrid on 87 and Atletico Madrid on 85.
