Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has said he would rather die than betray his political mentor and Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Gaidam.

Governor Buni made the statement on Tuesday while addressing delegates after the All Progressives Congress (APC) congress held in Damaturu.

“I would rather die than betray him. I remain grateful for the role he played in my political journey. I will never forget where I am coming from, and I will never turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me,” he said.

The governor said his political career was built on trust, adding that he had never betrayed anyone.

“I am a product of trust. I have never betrayed anybody. I always want to be remembered as someone who never betrays anybody,” he said.

Mai Mala Buni urged newly elected party officials in the state to remain committed to their duties and to uphold trust in carrying out their responsibilities.

He also spoke on the achievements of his administration in the past seven years in education, primary healthcare, empowerment and commerce.

He said the sectors would continue to receive attention.

On succession, the governor called on members of the APC in the state to pray for guidance in the choice of the party’s next gubernatorial candidate.

He urged party members to support a candidate who can unite members and continue his administration’s programmes.
