A teenager has been arrested by the police in Anambra State for allegedly stealing a woman’s underwear for ritual purposes.

Anambra police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, said in Awka on Thursday that the 19-year-old suspect was apprehended on January 11 in Onitsha.

“On January 11, 2019, at about 6.48 a.m., Police detectives attached to Central Police Station, Onitsha, arrested the suspect of Ogbaku in Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo.

“The suspect allegedly stole a female panties washed and spread on a rope at 21, Umuna Street, Odoakpu, Onitsha in Anambra State,” Mr Mohammed said.

He said that the suspect planned to sell the underwear to a yet-to-be-identified person at N80,000 for alleged ritual purposes.

The underwear was recovered from the suspect as exhibit, Mohammed said, adding that efforts were being intensified to apprehend other fleeing accomplices in the incident.

The police spokesperson implored the public to be vigilant and report to the nearest police station any suspicious person(s) in their vicinity for prompt action.

He added that this would help avert this new trend of crime in the society.
