Ogun State Police Command has arrested a teenager, Kehinde Adeoye, for allegedly killing his friend, Lukman Olawunmi, over an umbrella and the sum of N200.

Adeoye, 19, is an apprentice welder while his 17-year-old slain friend was learning to make cans, City Round reports.

It was gathered that a fortnight ago Olawunmi had taken a customer’s umbrella for repairs at the workshop where Adeoye worked with his father.

Adeoye was said to have collected N200 to fix the umbrella, promising to have it ready the following day.

Adeoye reportedly failed to make it ready, prompting the deceased to meet him at about 7 pm on Tuesday with the request to have the money and umbrella back.

The two were said to have engaged in a fight during which Adeoye allegedly hit his victim with a voodoo ring.

Olawunmi died on arrival at a private hospital in the community.

Adeoye, a native of Abeokuta, denied hitting his friend with a voodoo ring.

“We were close friends and we usually introduced customers to each other. The umbrella was the devil that caused all this. When I could not repair the umbrella, he came to our shop to collect it and the N200 he gave me.

“I told him to be patient and I promised to give him the money and the umbrella later that evening.

“He slapped me and I slapped him back. He fell and I poured water on him. I was the one who rushed him to hospital. I did not use anything to hit him. We were not fighting, we were playing,” he said.
