Famous art illustrator, Lemi Ghariokwu, has said that Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, told him that he did not need to go to the university because he was a genius.

The art designer revealed this in an interview with The Punch published on Sunday.

“For example, I didn’t go to university and it wasn’t by accident but by choice.

“Fela told me that people like me are geniuses and if I went to university, I would be taught colonial art.

“He said he experienced same but had enough willpower to shake it off,” Lemi said.

He also said in the interview that none of his children was into art design like him though they are into other creative endeavours.

Lemi Ghariokwu famously designed 26 album covers for Fela.

He designed the album art for the fourth studio album, Moral Instruction, of rapper, Falz.
