I, not Davido, brought Amapiano to Nigeria – May D

Singer May D

Music artiste Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as Mr May D, has said that he first introduced Amapiano music to the Nigerian music industry.

The 37-year-old said this in a Twitter post on Wednesday after a tweep claimed Pop star Davido brought the Amapiano sound to Nigeria two years ago.

Reacting to the tweet, May D claimed he started the Nigeria-South African collaboration.

“Na me bring amapiano come Naija, and I have awards to prove that! We started the Naija South African collaboration. I don’t like saying sh*t like this, but y’all like putting me under the box,” he wrote.

“After me was David,” May D added.

In another tweet, he wrote: “Don’t have time to hate , just spitting facts that’s all, you can insult me all you want, really don’t care we LEGENDS OUT HERE.”

May D parted ways with the reunited music duo P-Square and Jude Okoye in 2012.

He joined Davido’s Music Worldwide (DMW) record label in July 2020.
