How Gary Tonge and wife led their children Christopher and Ruth Tonge to TB Joshua

Gary Tonge and Fiona Tonge TB Joshua disciples of SCOAN

Dr Gary Tonge and his wife Fiona were disciples of founder of the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN) TB Joshua for two decades before the latter’s death on June 5, 2021.

The couple co-authored the book titled TB Joshua – Servant of God which was unveiled during the thanksgiving service held on Sunday, July 11, 2021 to round off Joshua’s weeklong funeral.

Gary and Fiona came to SCOAN with their children Christopher and Ruth Tonge who also grew to become Joshua’s disciples and senior members of SCOAN.

Ruth got married to fellow TB Joshua disciple Prophet Racine Bousso on February 14, 2022.

Racine was the one who unveiled the book Gary and Fiona wrote about TB Joshua during the thanksgiving service held two days after Joshua was buried on July 9, 2021.

Before coming to Nigeria, Gary obtained a first-class honours degree in electronics and a PhD in mathematics from the University of Southampton.

He enjoyed a successful career, joining the management board of the UK Independent Television Commission (ITC) in his early 30s, before launching out into consultancy and voluntary Christian work from 2004.

A chartered engineer of over 35 years, he is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

His wife Fiona is a former nurse with a postgraduate diploma in international disaster management from the University of Manchester. For two decades, they travelled as part of Joshua’s Emmanuel TV team to prepare for stadium gospel events and coordinate humanitarian projects around the world.

They also helped facilitate numerous groups from Europe and Russian speaking countries to visit the Synagogue in Lagos several times a year up to March 2020.

Gary Tonge addressed the press after Joshua’s death to announce the one-week funeral programme.

He also spoke during the lying in state for Joshua on July 8 and was one of those who performed the final rites at the grave on July 9, 2021.

His son Christopher Tonge said in a video recently uploaded to his YouTube channel that “In June 2004 I arrived in SCOAN and it was within days I just knew deep within my heart this is it. TB Joshua then took me like his son.”

Christopher’s sister Ruth also rose to become an Evangelist in the church before her marriage to Racine.
