A member of the House of Representatives, Funke Adedoyin, has died after battling an undisclosed form of cancer.

The 56-year-old, who held ministerial positions under former President Olusegun Obasanjo, died in the early hours of Friday.

She represented Ekiti, Isin, Irepodun Oke-Ero Federal Constituency in Kwara South before her death.

A close associate, Omolola Olobayo, confirmed her death to newsmen on Friday in Omu-Aran.

She said that: “the lawmaker travelled abroad for routine check up on her health situation but we believed that she will survive it but she gave up the ghost this morning (Friday)”.

Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Ali Ahmad, described the death as sudden and tragic.

Mr Ahmad, in a message issued by his special assistant on media, Shuaib Abdulkadir, said it is a colossal loss to the people of her constituency, the family and the entire Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) family.

Ahmad lamented that Kwara State has lost one of her best representatives and prayed to God to give the family and the state the fortitude to bear the loss.

He added: “Without mincing words, the late legislator had performed excellently in the House of Representatives within the last three and half years despite being a first-timer at the hallowed chambers.”

Adedoyin was one of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers who joined the PDP in a mass defection earlier this year.

She was a daughter of industrialist Samuel Adedoyin and held top positions in her father’s business conglomerate.
