Hotel barmen docked for bolting with employer’s N340,000

Two barmen, Babatunde Akiode and Samuel Adebola, who allegedly stole their employer’s N339,000 were on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused were, however, released on N200, 000 after they pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The accused —  Akiode, 25, a resident of Mushin, Lagos; and Adebola, 27, who lives in Ogun, were arraigned before Magistrate M.K.O Fadeyi on charges of conspiracy and stealing.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. G.B. Ekundayo, the accused committed the offences on October. 4 at Balogun Street, Mushin.

He said the accused conspired and stole N339, 000, property of Mr. Tunde Fabiyi, their employer.

“The accused converted the N339, 000 to personal use, being the money realised from the sale of products of the Nigerian Breweries and International Breweries entrusted in their care,” he told the court.

Ekundayo said the complainant discovered after the auditing of the months of September and October that the accused had stolen the money.

“The complainant discovered after the auditing of two months that the accused he employed as barmen in his hotel conspired to steal the money.

“When questioned, the accused could not give a satisfactory account of the missing money,” he said.

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused, on conviction, face seven years jail term for stealing their employer’s money>

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and were admitted to a bail of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

The magistrate said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment.

The case was adjourned until Nov. 13 for mention. (NAN)
