Greek club boss banned for invading pitch with gun

The gun-wielding president of PAOK Salonika has officially been banned from football for three years while the Greek SuperLeague club has suffered a hefty punishment.

Ivan Savvidis, entered the field of play with his gun after his PAOK side had a late goal ruled out for offside and the game was then abandoned following the hostile scenes on 11 March.

While the controversial mob-linked boss has been fined £87,000 by the Greek Superleague and the club imposed with a further £55,000 fine – the anguish comes from the points deduction that virtually rules them out of the title race.

According to BBC Football, the PAOK has been docked three points this season and will start next season with minus two points.

AEK Athens was subsequently awarded the three points and a 3-0 victory for the abandoned fixture, in which PAOK had the chance of moving within two points of their title rivals.

PAOK are now five points behind the league leaders with five games remaining for the season, which resumes this Saturday.
