Ghanaian Police arrest Shatta Wale over alleged gunshot attack

The Ghana Police Service has arrested music artist Shatta Wale over an alleged gunshot attack.

According to several internet posts on Monday, the reggae singer was allegedly shot at East Legon in Ghana. The singer’s spokesperson, Nana Dope, revealed that the singer is alive and has been taken to the emergency ward of a hospital.

The police, however, claimed that preliminary investigations show that the gunshot attack was fake.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the police said the singer who turned himself in, was arrested to assist the police in investigations for his alleged involvement in the creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic.

The statement read: “The Police have arrested Charles Nii Armah Mensah popularly known as Shatta Wale.
After we publicly declared him and one other person wanted, the suspect, Shatta Wale, turned himself in today Tuesday 19th October, 2021, at 8.59pm. He has been arrested to assist the Police in investigations for his alleged involvement in the creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic.

“As stated in previous statements, the public is advised to desist from publishing false information, capable of disturbing the peace of the country or risk being arrested and prosecuted.”

Recall that the 37-year-old who claimed that a prophet had told him that he would be shot on October 18, blamed the police for not taking action on such a ‘threatening statement’. He also added that he had been threatened before and the police did nothing about it.
