Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has announced the easing of lockdown in the state despite rising cases of the coronavirus infection.

The governor stated this in a brief statement on Saturday by his spokesman, Salihu Yakasai.

According to his directive, Kano residents can shop for food items for Ramadan on Monday and Thursday.

Ganduje said that during the period, movement of persons in the state would be limited to 10 a.m. to 4 p.m with compulsory use of face mask in public.

The governor had earlier urged the president to ease the lockdown in the state to lessen its economic effects on the state ‘especially in the period of Ramadan’.

A tweet by the state ministry of health said the governor got the consent of the president.

The northwestern state recorded 92 new coronavirus cases on Friday with an overall of 311, placing it second on the log of states with confirmed cases of the disease.
