The Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State (FUTA) has expelled six students for assaulting a female student outside its campus on November 16.

Clips of the attack went viral last week showing five students — one male and four females —beating up a female 100 level student, Boluwatife, in her room.

In a statement on Tuesday, FUTA deputy director of corporate communications, Adegbenro Adebanjo, said the students were expelled in line with the position of Page 48 of the 2019/2020 Students Handbook.

The article prescribes expulsion from the university for students who engage in “physical assault or battery on another student outside the university premises.”

The expelled students are Popoola Olaniyi, Oluwadare Tobiloba, Nandi Jessica, Ajuwon Emmanuella, Emmanuel Taiwo and Alao Cecilia.

The move followed the report of the disciplinary panel set up by FUTA management to probe the incident.

“As a consequence of their expulsion their studentship of FUTA ceases forthwith with all its rights and privileges,” Adebanjo said.
