France gets first female football league president

Nathalie Boy de la Tour has become the first female president of the French football league.

She takes over from Jean-Pierre Denis who was president on a caretaker basis after Frederic Thiriez stepped down in April following 14 years in charge.

The LFP general assembly elected her on Friday and also chose a new administrative council on a four-year mandate.

The 48-year-old Frenchwoman has been a member of that council since July 2013 — the first woman to hold that role.

She says “we will all work together toward this.”

Former France coach Raymond Domenech — who guided France to the 2006 World Cup final — had his bid put forward by the administrative council but was rejected by the general assembly.
