Four shot dead as gunmen attack deputy governor’s convoy

Gunmen have killed three policemen and a civilian in an attack on the convoy of Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe.

The deputy governor’s convoy was attacked on Tuesday while they were on the way to Abuja for the swearing-in ceremony of ministers scheduled for Wednesday.

The attack occurred close to Gako hill in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area around 6 pm.

Nasarawa police spokesman, Usman Samaila, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Mr Samaila did not give details of the incident. He, however, said the commissioner of Police, Bola Longe, had led a team of officers to the scene to assess the situation.

“As I speak with you now, the Commissioner of Police, the Deputy Commissioner Operations and other high ranking officers of the command have gone to the scene of the incident,” Samaila said.

The corpses have been deposited at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Lafia.

The deputy governor, who was unhurt, could not speak with journalists on the incident.
