Former PMNews editor Lanre Babalola dies at 57

Immediate past editor of PMNews Lanre Babalola is dead.

He was aged 57.

Qed.ng learnt Mr Babalola died in his home in Sango, Ogun State on Monday evening.

He had been receiving treatment for colon cancer.

“We took him to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) in the morning.

“We bought all the prescribed drugs and returned home.

“He had not even taken his medication when he died,” his son Damilola said.

Writing in a July 14 Facebook post, the late journalist said “I am 57 years old today.

“There’s nothing to be happy about as I am being ravaged by a debilitating disease that is threatening to take my life away.”

A Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Higher National Diploma (HND) holder, Babalola started his journalism career in 1992 as a labour reporter with Satellite newspaper.

He moved to Today’s News Today (TNT) as general reporter in 1994, rising to become acting news editor in 1998.

In 2000, he moved to PMNEWS as news editor and served as editor from 2015 to 2019.

Babalola is survived by his wife and children.
