Former PDP chairman, Mu’azu, disowns house where EFCC found N13bn

Adamu Mu'azu

A former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Mu’azu, has denied owning the Ikoyi apartment where $43.4m, £27,800 and N23.2m were uncovered, on Wednesday, by the Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) in Lagos State.

The denial follows media reports that the apartment was allegedly owned by him.

Speaking through his media aide, Akin Oyegoke, to Mu’azu, told online news platform, Sahara Reporters, that he does not have any house in Ikoyi.

“Mr Mu’azu does not own any house in Ikoyi except his house at Walter Carrington Street, Victoria Island Lagos,” Oyegoke said.

Mu’azu was governor of Bauchi State between 1999 and 2007.

He was elected as chairman of the then ruling PDP in 2014, but travelled out of the country in 2015 after the party’s candidate, former President Goodluck Jonathan, conceded defeat to the opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2015 presidential election.

Mu’azu who is believed to be living between the UK and Malaysia had previously been declared wanted by the EFCC for engaging in massive corruption.

The money found on the 7th Floor of a four-bedroom apartment at Osborne Towers located at 16, Osborne Road Ikoyi, Lagos, is more than N13billion at current Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) exchange rate.
