Forget Messi: John Ogu picks best Argentine player

Contrary to expectations, Super Eagles midfielder has snubbed Lionel Messi as Argentina’s main threat ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

Ogu, 30, has advised Gernot Rohr to concentrate less on the Barcelona superstar and instead focus on Sevilla star, Ever Banega.

The Hapoel Beer Sheva midfielder has faced the ex-Inter Milan star three times – twice with his club and once with Nigeria.

And he admits that the 29-year-old has tremendous skills in linking up defensive play with the attack perfectly which the Eagles must be wary of in their 2018 World Cup Group D match against the Albiceleste in Saint Petersburg on June 26.

“Argentina is a good side and with Banega in the middle, we must also watch him, not Lionel Messi alone,” Ogu was quoted by Complete Sports.

“With Banega around, you have to be at alert always. I have played against him three times – twice with Hapoel Beer Sheva and once with the Super Eagles.

“He’s that type of player that can deal with you defensively and hurt you as well going forward. He is strong, stubborn and skilful as well.”

Nigeria will clash with Argentina in their final group D game after facing Croatia and Iceland at the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup with the duo expected to come up against themselves in that encounter.
