The first printed copy of late Chinua Achebe’s premier novel ‘Things Fall Apart’ has been purchased for N1 million.

The private sale took place via Twitter after author, Lola Shoneyin, made a call on the social media platform on Sunday for collectors to purchase the vintage copy.

“Hey book collectors! My friend is selling a first print, first edition copy of ‘Things Fall Apart’ for N1m. Reply here and she will contact you,” she wrote.

After bids were placed, Shoneyin, who is popular for her book ‘The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives’, announced hours later that an anonymous buyer had successfully made the purchase.

“The book has been bought by an anonymous buyer,” she wrote.

Things Fall Apart was published in 1958. The book chronicles pre-colonial life in south-east Nigeria and the arrival of the Europeans in the 19th century.
