Nigerian gospel singer, Benita Okojie, has formally announced the death of her father, Ben Iyere-Okojie, which occurred on Monday, February 13.

In a message posted on Instagram on Thursday, the former child star declared, “My hero and father has gone to be with Jesus”.

She, however, expressed happiness that her father was alive to walk her down the aisle.

Ben King doubled as his daughter’s manager in her early days in the music industry.

The ‘Child of God’ singer said her father “quizzed my then boyfriend like every father would, gave your consent and enjoyed that day and many other months with us.”

My hero and father has gone to be with Jesus. He made such great impact in my life and in the lives of so many people. I’m eternally grateful to God that you walked me down the aisle. Quizzed my then boyfriend like every father would , gave your consent and enjoyed that day and many other months with us. I love you with all my heart. Thank you for believing in us (your children) and seeing to it that we all followed our passion. Thank you for your legacy. No more tears anymore. Now its celebration. You will be celebrated for life. Mummy misses you like crazy but she knows you’re with Jesus. You remain in our hearts forever. THANK YOU, OBU SIR!! Jesus is coming soon so I know we will see in heaven soon. Till then, rest with Jesus Baba Benita ???? #PrayersUp #PleaseSayAPrayerForMyFamily #NoQuestionsJustPrayAndThankGod #GodIsGood #RiseWithoutFear #God’sGotUsMoreThanEverBefore #BenKingLivesOn

Benita got married to Olawale Adeyina in November 2016.

Her uncle, Don Pedro Okojie, also mourned the deceased, saying the last time they shared a joke was at the singer’s wedding.

“With gratitude to GOD for a life well spent, I announce the passing away of my brother BEN KING IYERE OKOJIE,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Benita’s sister, Bellerose, who was a year older on Wednesday, said she could not make many calls on the day because her father died two days before.

The actress and OAP posted a picture of the two sisters and their father.

“The most passionate man I ever encountered, saw, read of in this life. My dad can sell ice to an Eskimo,” she wrote.
