The Federal Airport Authority Of Nigeria (FAAN) has banned two officers of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) from airports for extorting N8,000 from a 14-year-old girl.

The mother of the girl simply identified as Imoteda had on February 19, 2022, raised an alarm on Twitter about the incident.

The victim was travelling on Lufthansa Airline on the day of the encounter with the immigration officers.

Acting FAAN spokesperson Faithful Hope-Ivbaze in a statement on Friday said the allegations were investigated and it was discovered that Imoteda’s claims were valid.

“Upon investigation, they found the allegations to be true, as the officers involved were identified with the help of footages on our CCTV facilities and with the cooperation from the Nigerian Immigration Service,” the statement said.

“Consequently, the officers were made to refund the exact amount collected from the passenger.

“Their On Duty Cards were also withdrawn permanently and they have been banned from working in any Nigerian airport to serve as deterrent to others.”

On Twitter, Imoteda confirmed receiving a refund and “an apology from multiple people.”

“The guys at FAAN were very communicative throughout the process,” she added.
