Ezekwesili confirms she rejected being Buhari’s running mate

Oby Ezekwesili

Former vice presidential candidate Oby Ezekwesili on Tuesday confirmed a statement by popular cleric Pastor Tunde Bakare that she rejected being running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari.

She tweeted: “Many People: Please tell us, is it true you actually rejected the offer to be Vice Presidential Candidate to Buhari as Pastor Bakare @T_Bakare said?

“Me: Yes it is true. Any more questions?”

Ezekwesili a chartered accountant added: “I laughed at the many messages people sent me upon reading @T_Bakare’s factual statement that I rejected running as VP with @MBuhari in 2011.

“I did not waste a moment in saying No. It is why I have always pitied those who spend their years lying against me.”

Bakare said on Sunday that Ezekwesili turned down the request to be Buhari’s running mate in 2011.

The cleric said Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Ezekwesili, Jimi Agbaje, Niyi Adebayo and himself were part of those contacted to stand as Buhari’s running mate.

Bakare later became Buhari’s running mate for the presidency under the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
