Super Eagles coach to the 2010 World Cup, Lars Lagerback, has been named the second best national team coach in the world by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).
The statisticians at the IFFHS polled a list of coaches from various national teams around the world and chose Lagerback as the second best in the world, following Portugal’s Euro 2016 winning coach, Fernando Santos.
Lagerback coached a fantastic Iceland team to be second in the ranking, Joachim Löw (winner 2014) was third and Chris Coleman took an excellent 4th place with Wales.
The Swede accumulated 71 points while Santos garnered 199 points and Joachim Löw with 62 points came third.
Lagerback led Nigeria in seven games, including the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, had an unbeaten percentage of 71.43% and a win percentage of 28.57%, before turning down the chance to renew his contract following Nigeria’s failure to go past the group stage.
There was no place for current Nigeria Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, or any Nigerian for that matter on the list.
