Entertainers who collect money from politicians sell themselves short – 2face

2faceNigerian pop superstar, 2face Idibia, has told his colleagues who collect money from politicians that they have sold themselves short.

While he has nothing against supporting politicians, he frowns at the monetisation of political support by entertainers.

In a chat with qed.ng on Friday, March 27, 2face urged his fans to cast their votes and also abide by the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the elections.

He said, ‘I believe it is only fools that will say they’re fighting for one politician or the other. What I want people to know is that once the election results are announced, the politicians move on and continue their friendship. Meanwhile, those that killed themselves would have just died for nothing.”

Asked if he misses the largesse that would have accrued to him if he had supported a particular candidate, 2face said, “Na something wey you get before you go miss (It’s something you used to have that you can miss). Many of the entertainers that collect money know themselves. When you do that, you’re already selling yourself short, and in a myopic way.

“The only reason why these politicians come to you is because you are made already. However, I always say that nobody should criticise another person because of who they support. We should have respect for each other’s choice.”

While encouraging voters to exercise their franchise, 2face stated that participating in the voting process would actually enable one to call the elected officials to order when necessary.

In his words, “I will vote, and to be honest with you, I believe that my vote will count. If I don’t vote, I won’t have the right to talk in the future.

“It’s very important to participate in the process because if you don’t vote, you don’t have any right to criticise our leaders when you did not take part in the process that put them there.”

Concluding, he said, “I’ll also advise our politicians and leaders to be magnanimous and graceful whatever the outcome of the elections. Let’s not have sore and malicious losers.”
