El-Rufai’s deputy loses senate bid to PDP

Barnabas Bantex, deputy to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, has lost his bid to represent Kaduna South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Mr Bantex lost to the incumbent senator, Danjuma La’ah, of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Returning officer for the district, Suleiman Yashim, announced the result on Monday in Kafanchan.

Mr Yashim said La’ah polled 268,923 votes to defeat El-Rufai’s deputy who scored 133,287 votes.

Rijo Shekari of Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 9,609 votes while Benedict Kura of African Democratic Congress (ADC) scored 2,741 among others.

El-Rufai will be seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the governorship/state assembly elections on March 9.
