Eight bodies now recovered from Ebute Metta building collapse

Eight bodies have so far been recovered from the three-storey building that collapsed on Sunday night at the Ebute Metta area of Lagos.

South-west zonal coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Ibrahim Farinloye told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that the corpses include five males and three females.

Qed.ng that earlier reported that a mother and her child died in the collapse.

The building at 24 Ibadan Street, off Herbert Macaulay Way fell around 10.56 p.m. The state government has evacuated residents of distressed buildings around the area.

No less than 23 occupants of the building were rescued.

Rescue operations were still ongoing as of press time.
