Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officers brought businesswoman Aisha Achimugu to the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, following her arrest on Tuesday.
Achimugu, who arrived at the court around 11:35 am, was escorted by two female EFCC operatives.
The court, presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo, had ordered her to submit to EFCC after she was declared wanted in March for allegations of criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
The court also instructed that she be brought to court on Wednesday for a report following her appearance at the agency’s office.
Achimugu was arrested by EFCC operatives shortly after her return from London, around 5 am. She had reportedly returned to Nigeria on her own and was taken into EFCC custody immediately upon arrival.
Her lawyer, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, criticised the EFCC’s actions, stating that the arrest contravened a court order.
The lawyer expressed concerns over the legality of the EFCC’s actions, questioning their adherence to due process.
