The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released socialite Obi Iyiegbu aka Obi Cubana after three days of questioning on allegations of money laundering and tax evasion.

Obi Cubana had arrived at the anti-graft agency’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday where he faced investigators and was detained afterwards.

Rumour of his release was fuelled on Tuesday by a post on the businessman’s Instagram page.

However, EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren confirmed to PUNCH on Thursday that Obi Cubana had been released.

Throughout the businessman’s time with investigators, several celebrities including Davido and 2face stood in solidarity with him, attesting to his clean record.

His wife Ebele Iyiegbu described her husband as a hardworking man in an Instagram post.

Obi Cubana’s lavish funeral for his mother in July had raised fears the EFCC might come calling. The Anambra-born billionaire owns a chain of businesses which includes nightclubs in Lagos and Abuja.
