Drogba writes-off Chelsea, backs Arsenal for Premier League title

Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba has written-off his former team and has backed Arsenal instead to win the Barclays Premier League this season.

Drogba – speaking to promote his biography titled Commitment – noted that the Gunners could go all the way ahead of Manchester City to clinch the title due to the presence of ex-teammate and friend, Petr Cech.

The former Cote d’Ivoire skipper believes his former team, Chelsea, are too far behind in the race for the trophy – with Arsenal, his preferred choice.

“I think Manchester City will be as strong as they have been in the last few years,” Drogba told Sky Sports News.

“Unfortunately Chelsea are too far (behind in the title race), so I will go for my friend Petr Cech at Arsenal.”

Drogba however added his voice to Chelsea’s abysmal title defence this season – admitting Jose Mourinho’s side find themselves in an unfamiliar terrain.

The Blues are currently 15th on the log – having lost an unbelievable seven games thus far and Drogba is confident they can still turn their season around.

“It’s a different situation for club, manager and players,” added Drogba.

“When you have won the league the season before and you find yourselves in the last three or four teams in the table after four or five games, it is a shock.

“I know the players and the manager have the ability to change this.

“They have won two consecutive games in the last two days, so I think it is kind of a new start.”

Drogba remains a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge after he scored 164 goals in 282 appearances during his two spells at the club.
