Djokovic beats Pouille, to face Nadal in Australian Open final

World number one, Novak Djokovic, has thrashed Frenchman, Lucas Pouille, 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 to set up an Australian Open final against Rafael Nadal.

The 31-year-old beat Pouille in less than two hours in Melbourne on Friday.

Djokovic and Nadal will meet in a grand slam final for the eighth time.

It will be Djokovic’s seventh Australian Open final, and his first since 2016. He has won all six of his previous Australian Open finals.

Nadal outclassed Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-4, 6-0 on Thursday but Djokovic was even more dominant on Friday.

“It’s definitely one of the best matches I ever had on this court, everything worked the way I imagined it before the match,” Djokovic said.

The world No 1 had words of encouragement for Pouille after the match, saying: “He has the quality to be a top-10 player. It was his first semi-final and the occasion is different. He is going to get more matches in the latter stages of grand slams.”
