Dino Melaye heads to appeal court after tribunal ruling

Senator Dino Melaye has said he will be seeking redress at the Court of Appeal over the ruling of the tribunal.

In a video posted on social media on Wednesday, Melaye assured his supporters that hope was not lost.

“We actually did not expect justice at this level,” he said, “but we know that by the grace of God we will get justice at the Court of Appeal.”

The former legislator urged his supporters to stay away from violence and “remain happy”.

His decision to head to the appellate court follows the ruling of the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal which upheld the election of Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as senator representing Kogi West.

The three-man panel in a unanimous ruling on Wednesday said the petitioners’ (Melaye and the Peoples Democratic Party) witnesses failed to substantiate their claims in the petition.
