Dino Melaye blames gang-up for PDP primary loss

Dino Melaye

Senator Dino Melaye has alleged there was a gang-up against him which led to his defeat in the rerun primary of the Peoples Democratic Party for Kogi West Senatorial District.

Melaye lost the ticket on Tuesday to Tajudeen Yusuf aka TJ Yusuf, who is currently representing Kabba/Bunu Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

While the former lawmaker polled 99 votes Yusuf got 163 votes.

Both Melaye and TJ Yusuf, a three-term House of Representatives member, polled 88 votes apiece on Monday, forcing a rerun.

In a tweet, Melaye congratulated Yusuf, alleging there was a gang-up against him.

“The Primary has been fought and won. I congratulate Hon. T.J YUSUF and thank all those who voted in the first and second ballot for me. The Gang up is unimaginable but l give God praise. God bless you all,” he said.

It was alleged that Melaye’s ties with presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar cost him the ticket.

The former Kogi West Senator, however, said in an Instagram post on Wednesday morning that he was proud to be associated with Atiku.

“I am a winner. My winner’s status is not tied to any election. It is my eternal heritage. Dino is Dino. I am very proud to be associated with Atiku Abubakar. A true Patriot, consumate humanitarian and passionate Unifier. Don’t make a mistake Dino is coming,” he said.
