Diego Costa vs ArsenalChelsea striker Diego Costa has been charged by the Football Association with violent conduct following his display in the fiery derby against Arsenal on Saturday at Stamford Bridge.

In a statement released by the FA on Monday, Costa was charged after video revealed an incident where he used his chest on Gunners defender Laurent Koscielny after he had earlier flailed an arm in his face.

According to the football body, off the ball incidents which are not seen at the time by the match officials are referred to a panel of three former elite referees.

Along with the Spain international, Arsenal’s Gabriel Paulista has also been charged with improper conduct for his behaviour following his dismissal, whilst teammate Santi Cazorla has been warned for his behaviour after being sent off.

Costa has until 6pm on Tuesday to respond to the charge and could face a three-game ban if found guilty. Meaning, the striker could be unavailable for the Blues next three crucial fixtures against Newcastle, Southampton and Aston Villa.
