Former Super Eagles player Victor Moses on Sunday led a delegation from Chelsea FC to the palace of the Oba of Ikate Kingdom, Saheed Elegushi, in Lagos.

The visit was part of the club’s first official fan engagement event in Nigeria tagged The Famous CFC in Lagos and included members of Chelsea Fans Club Nigeria.

In a post on social media, Oba Elegushi said he used the occasion to encourage the club to support football development in Nigeria.

“Today, I hosted a delegation from Chelsea Football Club, UK @chelseafc which also included our ex-international, Victor Moses @victormoses, accompanied by Chelsea Fans club, Nigeria,” he wrote.

“I am honoured by the visit and I use the opportunity to inform the Chelsea team to support our local clubs and football academies, exploring partnerships that will benefit of our teeming youths who want to play football.

“I thank them for the visit and wish them a memorable time in the centre of excellence.”

Among those present at the palace were actor Segun Arinze and director general of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, Abisoye Fagade.

Fans had gathered at Hard Rock Cafe Lagos on Saturday to watch Chelsea’s Premier League match against Liverpool FC, which ended 1-1.

Moses also participated in a meet and greet session and a live question and answer session where he spoke about his time at Stamford Bridge.

The 35-year-old won one Premier League title, one FA Cup and two Europa League titles during his time at Chelsea.

He is the second most successful Nigerian player in Chelsea’s history behind Mikel Obi, who won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, one UEFA Champions League and one Europa League title among other honours with the club.

Mikel Obi has in recent times criticised the club’s owners over the management of Chelsea, a situation that has also drawn reactions from sections of the club’s supporters.

Current Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo also visited Saheed Elegushi at his palace in July last year during a trip to Nigeria.

The Famous CFC in Lagos celebrated Chelsea’s large fan base in Nigeria.
