Denrele Edun celebrates birthday in body art

Television host, Denrele Edun, on Wednesday, celebrated his 37th birthday covered in body art.

Denrele, who is known for his fashion style and personality, took to Instagram to share pictures of himself stating that he uses his art as a voice to inspire generations.

“Happy 37th birthday to me. There is only ONE of me and I stand vehemently to lend my VOICE through my ART and the pragmatic use of my CRAFT to consciously and radically inspire generations, both behind and before me.

“I painted my past on my body as the foundation of my future,” he wrote.

(I’m better now, tho)! Reality Check; I know what you’ve seen and heard about LAGOS: what you think is happening, what you think she needs, what you think she is! The four things that come to mind when people think of LAGOS are: Population, Problems, Poverty and Promises Unfulfilled. But that’s not the whole story! You cannot carry out fundamental change without a certain amount of madness! Madness in this case, comes from NON CONFORMITY; the courage to turn your back on the old formula, the courage to invent the future. HAPPY 37TH BIRTHDAY TO ONE OF LIFE’S MOST UNEXPLAINABLE MYSTERIES; ADENRELE OLUFEMI ADEYEMI AKANBI SAMUEL (RAJEEV RAJA) EDUN. Fashion is truly PAIN; i stood still for over 7 hours whilst getting this masterpiece painted on my bare skin! And yes, In one exhibit, I interpret knowingly that in between my LEGS is an entrance to a world of unimaginable possibilities but I am immersed in my sense of self that I always choose to never settle for less – I am not for your amusement, neither your fantasy! I PAINTED MY PAST AS THE FOUNDATION OF MY FUTURE! I was once in that picture, caught up in the Hustle of the Lagos metropolis, chasing after the golden dream. Jumping buses, fighting with conductors and drivers, shoved out of fast speeding buses because I looked a ‘certain kind of way’, ridiculed to the max, trampled upon consciously, trekked long walks till I ended up exhausted, walked the length of 3rd Mainland bridge because I had no transport fare after series of disappointing casting calls… Need I say more? Denrele was born in Hamburg, Germany, to a Yoruba father and an Indian-Mauritius mother. He is the only son and has two sisters.

He grew up in Germany and came to Nigeria when he was five where he attended St Gregory’s College, Ikoyi and the University of Lagos where he studied English Education.

Denrele started his television career as an actor at eleven when he played a presenter/producer on Kid division 101 on NTA Network.

As an undergraduate at the University of Lagos he went into modeling, and after graduation, he joined Sound City as a TV presenter.

He has been recognized with awards including The Best TV Personality at the NEAs in New York, Dynamix Award for Best Youth TV Personality 2006/2007/2008, and The Future Award for Best Producer.
