Defending champions, Enugu Rangers, stutter once again in NPFL

Rangers International

It was yet another disappointing outing for Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title holders, Enugu Rangers, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Niger Tornadoes.

The Flying Antelopes who have only managed to rack up just one victory this season were frustrated at the Cathedral by visiting Tornadoes on Sunday.

Rangers took the lead after five minutes through Godwin Aguda but Bolaji Adeyemo stunned the host with an equaliser few minutes to the end of the first half.

The stalemate is their third in five games – culminating to six points and 12th on the log while Tornadoes are 17th with one point less.

Just as the champions are enduring a torrid run, Plateau United is having a dream start to the season.

The Jos-based side continued their unbeaten streak with a hard fought 2-1 win against Abia Warriors at the Rwang Pam Stadium.

It was the Kennedy Boboye-led side’s fourth win of the season and it helped consolidate their position at the top of the standings.

Elisha Golbe set his side on the road for the win when he scored the curtain raiser on five minutes.

Godwin Zaki drew the visitors level with his third goal of the season in the 35th minute, while Philip Azango netted the winner for United two minutes before the break.

Mountain of Fire Ministries FC (MFM FC) also enjoyed a 1-0 win against Kano Pillars at the ‘Soccer Temple’ Agege Stadium, Lagos.

Debutant Adebayo Waheed netted the winner in the 66th minute.

In Port Harcourt, Rivers United endured a disappointing evening as they were held to a barren draw by a spirited Lobi Stars team who earned their first away point of the campaign.

The Pride of Rivers dominated from start to finish but were thwarted by Lobi goalkeeper, Okiemute Odah, who put in a top class performance.
