Dawson’s equaliser leaves Tottenham’s title hopes in tatters

Tottenham Hotspur’s title ambition suffered a dramatic setback on Monday night after West Brom secured a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

West Brom defender, Craig Dawson, scored in either half of the game to seal a 1-1 draw which delivered a blow much harder than Dele Alli’s sly punch at Claudio Yacob.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side went into the game knowing that a win over the Baggies would take them back to within five points of Leicester, who beat Swansea City 4-0 on Sunday, and things certainly seemed to be going the home side’s way.

Dawson opened the scoring in the 33rd minute at the wrong end with an own goal to give the home side an early lead.

Spurs had already struck the woodwork twice before that opener, and did so for a third time in the second half through Argentine, Erik Lamela, as the North London faithful grew increasingly edgy.

The intensified pressure soon turned to desperation as Dawson recovered from his own goal by heading home Craig Gardner’s corner in the 73rd minute.

That would be a significant blow for Spurs who face Chelsea away next Monday but it might be all over by then.

Leicester City will be champions if they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
