Afeare Israel, an aide to singer Davido has tendered his sincere apology to celebrity disc jockey DJ Cuppy for his ‘libelous’ statement against her.

Afeare shared a video of himself apologizing on Instagram on Thursday.

He said he was sorry for the embarrassment he caused herself and her family.

Captioning the post he thanked Davido and his father Deji Adeleke, Ovation publisher Dele Momodu and others.

His apology came shortly after DJ Cuppy’s lawyers wrote him a letter demanding an apology.

The letter read, “It is crucial to state that there are legal contracts that govern the relationship between our Client and Mr Zlatan Ibile; said contracts which very fairly and adequately cover the financial compensation of both artists, neither our Client nor Mr Zlatan Ibile have breached their contractual obligations in any way.

“The allegations in the statements made by you are completely untrue and constitute a grave libel upon our Client. We, therefore, write to demand that you immediately cease and desist from all libellous and defamatory statements of our Client, her business and her brand.”

He was also given the seven days to respond to the letter.

“Furthermore, we demand that within seven days of receipt of this letter; (i) You write a letter to be shared with the public containing a suitable withdrawal and apology in terms to be approved by us on our Clients behalf. (ii) You provide us with your full assurance and an undertaking in writing that you will cease and desist from repeating the publication of those or similar allegation concerning our client,” they wrote.

The legal actions taken against Afeare began when he came out to say the disc jockey did not compensate Zlatan for their hit song ‘Gelato’.

He wrote, “Kudos to someone like Zlatan, who took a bold step by flushing a full fake friend like Cuppy who was just using his head all in the name of my papa na Otedola. Zlatan did a hit collabo with her, ordinary one kobo, he no see. She also took Zlatan to Abuja for her fundraising where she made billions of naira and didn’t even remember Zee for one kobo until tomorrow.

“No accommodation, no feeding. Zlatan had to even spend his own personal money at Transcorp Hilton to carter for everyone including me. Dis na 2021 abeg.”

DJ Cuppy responded saying, “For the record… There have been no breaches of my contractual agreement regarding the song #Gelato as confirmed by lawyers. However, as @IsrealDMW publicly inaccurately declared I owe an artist money, I am suing him for libel and defamation!”

Afeare’s posts came not up to 24 hours after a video of Zlatan denying DJ Cuppy in an interview went viral on January 28.

In the interview he said he did not know who bares the name Cuppy.

The question of why he blocked the DJ was asked weeks after the DJ said she was blocked by the singer.

DJ Cuppy had called out the singer for blocking her for over 10 months on January 8.

“10 months later and I sometimes still wonder why @Zlatan_Ibile blocked me on WhatsApp and Instagram without ever saying why. we were actually friends 🤷🏽‍♀️ …AND “Gelato” was a hit!” she wrote.

In 2019, DJ Cuppy featured Zlatan on her song ‘Gelato’.
