David Bowie cremated in private

Rock legend, David Bowie, who died at the age of 69 on January 10 after an 18-month battle with cancer, has reportedly been privately cremated in New York.

Daily Mirror reported that in line with the late singer’s wishes no family or friends were present at the ceremony.

A memorial concert will be held for the Labyrinth star on March 31 at the Carnegie Hall in New York, USA.

The show, planned before Bowie’s death, was originally scheduled as a tribute with performances of the singer’s hit songs by Visconti, Cyndi Lauper, and The Roots among others.

There will also be a tribute next month at the Brit Awards with the chairman Max Lousada saying: “Naturally, we wish to honour his extraordinary life and work at the forthcoming Brit Awards and pay a fitting tribute to one of our greatest icons.”

Bowie is survived by his wife, model, Iman, whom he married in 1992; his son, director Duncan Jones; and daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones.
