The election petition tribunal in Kano has sacked Shamsuddeen Dambazau, son of former interior minister, Abdulrahman Dambazau, as member representing Sumaila/Takai Federal Constituency.

The tribunal, in a ruling on Friday, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a certificate of return to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Surajo Kanawa.

Dambazau had come second in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary.

He was given the mandate when a Federal High Court in Kano disqualified a former presidential aide, Kawu Sumaila, in a pre-election suit.

Dambazau had sued INEC, APC and Mr Sumaila challenging the nomination of the latter as APC candidate.

The former minister’s son told the court through his counsel, Nuraini Jimoh, that Sumaila contested for the Kano South senatorial seat and lost to Kabiru Gaya.
